Former Arsenal defender William Gallas picked out Martin Odegaard for his captain’s performance in the North London derby.
Gallas was a captain under Arsene Wenger, and he witnessed current skipper Odegaard take the lead for his side in Sunday’s North London derby.
Mikel Arteta’s men stayed in the hunt for a Premier League trophy with a 3-2 at Tottenham, while Spurs are not yet sure of grabbing the last Champions League spot.
“Even before the match started, I saw Odegaard talking to his players with so much authority," he said. “That is something I haven’t seen before.
"We’ve seen the Arsenal players huddle before a game, but this felt different. It was a big derby, and he was motivating the team with his gestures.
“This is an Arsenal team that has grown up a lot over the last couple of years. They are so close to winning the Premier League and that improved maturity is one of the main reasons.”
