'Basics' What Mikel Arteta did to inspire his players in the North London derby

Part of Arsenal's approach to away games is to decorate the dressing room - and one of the posters at Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday had the word 'basics' on it.

Each of the letters broke down to read one of Mikel Arteta's values, such as 'compete', ' intensify', 'shape' but most telling of all was the final buzzword: 'set-pieces'.

This derby underlined why Arteta values them so highly. Two goals from corners played a crucial role in the 3-2 victory. The goals were almost identical, with the Gunners beating goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario and firing in at the near post on both occasions.

Set-pieces have become a valuable weapon for Arsenal and Sunday's goals took their tally for the season to 22, the highest in the top flight. The Gunners have scored 16 of those goals exactly from corners.
