Mikel Arteta surprised quite a few Arsenal fans by opting to play Leandro Trossard over Gabriel Martinelli in the loss to Aston Villa.
After the game, the Spaniard was confronted about this decision in the press conference by a reporter.
The journalist asked why Arteta had started Trossard over Martinelli for this game, to which the gaffer simply responded: “Because I’m the manager and I decide the lineup.”
To be fair, Mikel had enough reason to give Trossard a start after the way he performed against Bayern Munich in the last game – scoring a brilliant goal in a stellar super-sub performance.
Martinelli was brought on in the second half, but failed to make much impact and was actually at fault for not being able to mark Leon Bailey for his goal.
