Zinchenko: I would go to war if called up

"I think it's a clear answer. I would go [to fight]," Oleksandr Zinchenko has said when asked if he would go to war against Russia if called up by Ukraine.

"It's tough to understand that just recently we [Zinchenko and his former school friends] have been in the same school, we were playing in the playground or on the football pitch, and now they have to defend our country. And, honestly, [it's] so hard to accept this, but it is what it is. We cannot give up.

"I know maybe some people might think that it's much easier... for me being here [in London] rather than being there [in Ukraine]. I really hope that this war will end soon," the 27-year-old also said.

On Wednesday, Ukraine president, Volodymyr Zelensky, signed a law bill that would lower the military mobilisation age from 27 to 25. In December, he said the country would need 500,000 more soldiers to be mobilised.

Zinchenko, in turn, has already donated about £1,000,000 to Ukraine since Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022.

Russia is still destroying Ukrainian cities and killing civilians including kids with all the weapons imaginable. We strongly condemn Putin's genocide and acts of terror against Ukraine.
