Maitland-Niles gets new club after 20 years at Arsenal, reunited with former teammate

The versatile midfielder had been a free agent since leaving the Gunners back in June.

He was one of 10 players released by the Gunners at the end of his contract this summer.

He had been with the club for 20 years after joining his boyhood club back in 2003. He spent last season on loan at Southampton. 

Maitland-Niles confirms Arsenal exit after 20 years at the club

 told The Athletic: "It’s been a great journey but it has come to an end now (at Arsenal). It’s time for a fresh start and to find a new home.

"I’m looking forward to that but, at the same time, my head’s not quite there yet and it’s all about what’s happening now with Southampton.

"I’m just fully focused on trying to help us stay up and stay positive on a day-to-day basis and win games.

"When the time gets closer towards the end of the season, I’ll have something else to think about. But right now, I’m just focused on football and the task at hand.

 is a great club to be at and progress and get some minutes under my belt. Of course, if they were to make an offer, I’ll be more than happy to stay."

 Hale End academy at the age of six in 2003 and graduated to the under-21's 10 years later.

He made his professional debut in a Champions League match against Galatasaray in 2014 before joining Ipswich Town on loan the following year.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles names his Arsenal teammate as the most cringe

If he had accepted to play as right back or left back, he would have been the one enjoying at the moment because Arteta plays inverted full backs that seemed more like a midfielder

@striker21 yeah mate he will probably be moving from right back left back to mid and drop deep too. 
Too bad that didn’t happen. He’s a product of wenger. Just sad to see him leave. 
But at the same time happy that he found a new club. Win win situation now
