Aaron Ramsdale was Arsenal’s hero as he played a major role in their 1-1 (4-1) win over Man City to clinch the Community Shield title.
He made a save in the penalty shootout and was great in normal time to silence all his doubters.
After the game, he spoke to ITV on his feelings and the importance of this result and said: “We worked hard on it. We've been working hard for two years. We haven't had luck which was probably needed in previous seasons. We've stuck at it. It's worked today.
“I'm not sure (what this means for the season ahead). City are a bit behind their pre-season. For us, it's a statement. It's a marker to know we can go and beat Man City in a big game when it matters.
“I’m not sure what it'll be like this season. But that mental block is gone. We're ready to push on now.”
Ramsdale will need to keep up his form to retain his role as Arsenal’s no.1 amid rumours of David Raya’s signing being imminent.
