One tactical tweak Fulham made for Arsenal game and why it didn't work with Arteta: explained

"Interesting aspect of today's game – Fulham tried to double up Arsenal on the wing," journalist James Benge notes.

Instead of going with the 4-3-3 Marco Silva often tries at Fulham, he decided to switch to 4-2-3-1 this time. Their two wide attackers - Manor Solomon and Bobby Decorvoda-Reid - sometimes helped the full-backs on the wings defensively.

What was Arsenal's response?

"This time Arteta had a solution and Arsenal battered them through the middle, playing narrower than they usually have," Benge explains.

Maybe this was one of the reasons behind Bukayo Saka's weak performance. Instead of using him as the main offensive threat, Arsenal decided to be more creative through the middle – this helped Leandro Trossard, Gabriel Martinelli, Martin Odegaard and Granit Xhaka display their best qualities on the ball.

Great tactical response from Mikel Arteta anyway.
