New European Super League announced, aimed to replace Champions League — explained

The European Super League is officially back with a revamped format and a new set of ideas, it was announced on Thursday.

The competition could now contain up to 80 teams in a multi-division format with each side guaranteed to play a minimum of 14 games.

Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus remain the driving force behind the battle to replace the Champions League with a non-UEFA tournament.

It remains to be confirmed whether Arsenal, who were one of the founders of the original European Super League, are committed to the revamped competition.
