Play the kids, Mikel? Pick your Arsenal XI vs Newcastle from 3 options!

Arsenal don't have much to play for they are very unlikely to reach the Europa League spots even if they win all remaining games.

Tierney and Lacazette will be assessed before the game so we decided against including them in our lineup options—they are unlikely to start if they've just returned from injuries.

Aubameyang is not fit enough to start games either, as Arteta previously confirmed.

We think Arteta will rest some crucial players to keep them fresh for Villarreal—but how exactly the Gunners should line up against Newcastle? Here are our options.

Option 1: Mild rotation

  • Arsenal should respect the integrity of the competition and play first-teamers where possible.
  • We expect Xhaka, Partey and Saka to be rested though as they have played too much recently.

Leno; Chambers, Holding, Mari, Soares; Elneny, Ceballos, Odegaard; Pepe, Nketiah, Smith Rowe

Option 2: Heavy rotation

  • Fringe players should be given chances to impress.
  • Soares should start at left-back and Bellerin at right-back to give Xhaka and Chambers a breather.
  • Ceballos gets to start as he will be unavailable against Villarreal following his red card. He could still be helpful with his progressive passing and good tackling skills.
  • Dani partners Elneny who has not played much recently.
  • Up front, Willian gets another chance to prove he's good enough for the Gunners.

Ryan; Bellerin, Gabriel, Luiz, Soares; Elneny, Ceballos, Odegaard; Willian, Nketiah, Martinelli

Option 3: Play the kids!

  • There is no difference if we finish 10th or 11th, this league season has been a disaster for the Gunners.
  • That's why we should play as many Academy kids as possible to give them valuable experience in the Premier League.
  • So the U23s first-choice keeper Karl Hein gets his debut for the Gunners.
  • Azeez and Balogun, who impressed in the Europa League group stages, also start.

Hein; Bellerin, Holding, Gabriel, Soares; Elneny, Azeez, Smith Rowe; Nelson, Balogun, Martinelli
