Age factor in modern soccer/sports
- Neymar’s getting on for 30 and so what ?
Here’s the “so what” -
I don’t think age should be an aspect of determining a players’ fitness or worth. Some of you might not know this but the Japanese soccer player Kazuyoshi Miura is in his 50s and still playing as of TODAY.
Mentally and physically fit. He plays like he’s in his mid 20s and get this, he’s a striker. Astonishing.
Players like Neymar or even Dembele will most likely retire before then. Their injuries might “heal” for now but it’s something that catches up as they age. Neymar know how to play but he will not go as far as the like of Ibrahimovic and that’s a fact. Though he play beautiful game but the same way he play will be the end of his career as a professional soccer player. Soccer is a game of physics and mentality, not GQ nor the Kardanshians.
Look at Messi. He play nonstop yet barely get injured. He’s active, he attack, he get kicked, punched and still come up as the last man “standing”. Matter of fact forget about him and look at Ibrahimovic.
The man is 38 and still kicking. He went from Ajax to Juventus to Internazional to BARCELONA to Milan to PSG to Manchester United to LA Galaxy then back to Milan and still going strong. At the end it’s how you take care of yourself. How you approach the game. Soccer is a game of physics but not always. Iniesta and Xani being an example of that. They weren’t all muscles but technically they knew how to play and how to stay fit for years to come. They played well and stayed apt till today. One is still playing and one is coaching.
Bottom line:
Is age a problem?
NOT REALLY
Does it determine a players worth ?
MAYBE
Should clubs take it into consideration when signing a player ?
DEPEND ON THE PLAYERS MEDICAL HISTORY.
Is an aging player worthy ?
DEPEND ON THE PLAYERS FITNESS

I get frustrated when they sign someone old and I Definitely agree with you but i get mad because They just sign Average old players and if they are not average they are usually expensive. Also we won’t have to worry about this in 2021 Because Im 80% Sure Victor Font Will be elected as president and he has a program and a plan for Barca named “Si Al Future” something like that which means yes to The future and we all know what that means.
Agreed. Signing an aged player without taking into account certain criteria such as fitness and medical records can be problematic. Barca tend to sign aged players who are tired.
Pure gold! What do you think about Griezmann's signing? Was it a god ideal for Barca to sign him? He was 28 years old when he joined us.
Though he started the season poorly by his standard as we knew him from Atlético, I personally see nothing wrong with the signing of Griezmann at 28. He was the face of Atlético before leaving them. He was and still physically fit to play for years to come. He’s not known to be hospitalized and miss out on matches like Ney and Dembele.
