A new hope or we are done?
While we maybe skeptical of the whole transfer situation we really need to focus on the records of our past few years.
When did we win the last UCL?
Back in 2015. Real Madrid won thrice after that, Bayern, Liverpool and Chelsea had the taste of it while we failed against Atletico, then against Juventus by losing 3-0 away, blowing home win against Roma and Liverpool, getting humiliated against Bayern and losing to PSG, a club with no honor.
What did we do in La Liga?
After 2019 we lost the league to Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid. We even blew away the runners up position last time.
Any major achievement in last five years?
Nope. Nothing.
Now lets focus on the present. A huge debt of more than a billion dollar and then a bunch of players sucking money like a leech sucking blood along with few to warm their seats and refuse to leave even when you metaphorically kick them on the butts.
Graphically we are on the fall since 2015 both on and off the field. Games or business everywhere things went haywire. A cancer has spread within the club such that it really needs to be cut off root and stem before it kills everyone and everything.
“The club is above anyone and anything”
We know what are the horrible choices made to ameliorate the clubs position. However, there are upsides as well. Just hear me out:
With Messi gone for two years, an independent team might emerge, more options might be explored and most importantly new generation of legends may be built. We can’t disagree that even the great Lionel was getting old and soon we had to lose him as the main player.
Emerson was a great deal of a player and with a net profit of only €6m was a loss project for a big club. However, a key point is “BIG CLUB” in that sentence. We are not in a position to think like a big club now. Not with a billion dollar debt. Therefore, even a €6m profit is a profit now.
Griezmann is a player of great prospect but is not worth the money he’s taking. The salary was not commensurate with his performance to be honest and getting him off the hook was a good decision in terms of financial situations.
At last the club could reduce the wage bills as players like Pique, Busquets, Alba accepted the pay cut. Reportedly Roberto, Umtiti and Pjanic are also close to the reduced wages. All these together makes things better for the club and it is minor but still the first step towards progress.
Now the point is, what about signing the aged players like Aguero and Luuk. Well, a striker with great prospect and age below 28 years is not affordable – neither the transfer fee nor the salary is good enough for the club. Therefore, what options do the club has? However, it is clear that the club needs a two years of transition with these players and by that time they are aiming for a great project (at least that’s the hope).
The first team promotion of Yusuf Demir is another glimpse of hope. Fati, Demir, Pedri, Frankie De Jong, Puig (if he is given enough time), Mingueza, Eric Garcia, Araujo are young players and finding a great chemistry between these players would bring a great deal of success in the years to come. Gavi, Nico and more fresh players are also in the pipeline.
Imagine a evolved team with Dest, Mingueza, Eric Garcia at defense, Pedri, De Jong, Puig at mid field and Demir, Fati in the forward. There is a possibility that a winning team is in the building. It would be too much hope if I say after two years Messi will rejoin with this set of players for a year or two to retire with another Champions League title, but who can say that is impossible?
