My thoughts on FC Barcelona
We should try to sell or loan some of those players in the next transfer window: Firpo, Wague, Miranda, Umtiti, Rakitic, Rafinha, Coutinho, Braithwaite. We could use some of the players in swap deals. Vidal should play at least one more season, but more as a sub, not a starter.
Griezmann's and Dembele's faith should be decided after the champions league, depending on how they perform.
Griezmann's problem is that he is playing in the wrong positions. He can't play well as a winger or a striker, he is a supporting striker. I don't know how realistic is buying Lautaro Martinez, but he would be worth the money I think. With Griezmann, Suarez and Lautaro in the club, someone is not going to be happy because of the lack of game time. Someone has to leave, either Griezmann or Suarez. Suarez is clearly past his prime. He lost his speed. Many people say that Lautaro Martinez could never "replace" Luis Suarez. It depends on what they mean by "replace". He is clearly not on the same level as Luis Suarez was when Barcelona bought him and it's hard to imagine that he will ever become as good as him. On the other hand, we put Lautaro from the bench to play instead of Suarez and he "replaces" Suarez.
What are the keys to Lautaro's game?
1. Sharpshooter
One of Lautaro's great strengths is taking the option to shoot quickly but executing it slowly and with composure.
The Argentine likes to fight for every ball and will do anything to satisfy his hunger for goals.
Another attribute that allows Lautaro to have so much composure when shooting is his quick acceleration, meaning he's not speeding up by the time he comes to shoot.
2. Making the most of advantages
A good striker is always on the look-out to exploit gaps in opposition defences in order to take advantage of them.
In this sense, Lautaro is a predator - he goes for the kill when he senses blood.
The 22-year-old can create a chance out of nothing and loves to shoot when given the slightest opportunity to do so.
3. Finishing
Lautaro makes the most of the chances he is presented with and often opts to shoot low towards the bottom corners.
His goal at the Camp Nou earlier this season demonstrated exactly that - even though he was off-balance, he still managed to slide the ball past Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
4. Pressing
The Argentine doesn't just contribute to the attacking phases of his team but the defensive ones too.
His pressing from the front unsettles opposition defenders, forcing them to make quick decisions and, if they make the wrong one, he's there to pounce.
What's more, Lautaro is quick to change his roles during the transition, trying to win the ball back as soon as his team loses it.
Summary
1. Deciding to shoot quickly but executing it slowly.
2. Exploiting any advantages he's given or makes for himself.
3. Using all available resources and shooting low.
4. Pressing from the front to force mistakes.
Fati is our greatest talent along with Puig. He should be used as a starter more often next season. Pedri and Trincao are possible regular starters in the future. Trincao is a left-footed player who loves to cut inside. He predominantly plays as a natural right winger but can also operate as a left-winger or a second striker. He helps with the build-up and exploits the space between the opposition lines.
Messi should play higher as a winger in order to score more goals, but we need creative midfielders.
I hope that if Puig and Pjanic play both in the midfield we would solve our problem of lacking creative midfielders. Puig is an incredible talent. He has great creativity, vision, passing, dribbling, long shot. Pjanic is experienced. The 30-year-old has a wider passing range than most of Barcelona's current midfielders. His versatility in attacking and defensive attributes with his vision makes him so special. What's perhaps most impressive about him, though, is his consistency, as it's rare that he has to miss a game through injury. With him, on the team, we would have two best free-kick takers in the world. He is right-footed and Messi is left-footed. De Jong should play as a defensive midfielder and start our attacks, he needs to improve his offensive contribution. Busquets and Roberto should be put on the bench and used only when needed. We need Alena back.
Alba can probably play several more seasons on the level we need from him. Lenglet is our best centre-back and has time to improve even more. Araujo should be used as a starter if we don't buy someone better and Pique put on the bench. Araujo, Todibo, Torres, Garcia, someone has to replace Pique. Semedo is not that bad, he should stay.We could use Emerson as a sub.
And of course ter Stegen, no doubt about the goalkeeper position. He is in top 3, on the same level as Oblak and Alisson.
Messi lacks support. He can't do everything alone. The team should be built around Messi as usual but it's important that it's not fully depended on him, that it can play good without him as well.
The prime example of a game-changer Barcelona could sign is Neymar. But I don't think getting him back is the best idea. He is 28 and could play for about 4,5 seasons at the level required for Barcelona. Because of options we have on the left wing (Fati, Dembele, Pedri, Trincao), we should rather spend money on the center-forward position. Griezmann is not a striker and Suarez is past his prime, to put it simple.
After catastrophic defeats against Roma and Liverpool team's mentality has been heavily damaged. We need changes.
We need a new board.
We need a long term project.
We need a new coach.
We need to play more forward passes and less back passes.
