'I wouldn't be offended': Lewandowski demands Ballon d'Or compensation

Robert Lewandowski says he's still hoping to get the Ballon d'Or he was denied in 2020 due to Covid.

"The Ballon d'Or in 2021 is Messi's award, but the Ballon d'Or in 2020 is still pending," Lewandowski said.

"I saw that there were rumours that I could get the award. If I receive the 2020 Ballon d'Or four years later, I wouldn't be offended.

"It would be an honour and I would accept the award," the striker added.

After winning the Ballon d'Or in 2021 Leo Messi paid tribute to Lewandowski who didn't get to win it for his efforts in 2020 because the ceremony was cancelled due to Covid.

"I want to tell Robert that it is an honour for me to be up against him. You deserve your Ballon d'Or. Last year everyone agreed that you were the winner," Messi said in his victory speech.

Now in his mid-30s, it's unlikely Lewa would ever get his hands on that award unless he gets compensation from the organizers.
