Barca star wins 'Oscar' of football only Leo Messi claimed before

Barca Femeni superstar Aitana Bonmati has won the 2024 Laureus Sportswoman of the Year award!

She is the first Barcelona player since Leo Messi to claim the Sportsman / Sportswoman of the Year accolade. The Argentine did it twice – in 2020 and 2023; he was also shortlisted for the prize this time, but tennis icon Novak Djokovic has won it instead.

The Laureus Sports Awards are often compared to Oscars for how prestigious they've been lately – even the main prize looks quite similar to the one movie stars get.

By the way, Spain women's national team have been called the Laureus Team of the Year – they are also full of Barca stars!
