Speaking to Topps UK, Jose Mourinho heaped special praise on Luka Modric.
"Luka Modric is the beauty of football.
"He is my pride because I took him to Real Madrid when nobody believed that he was a player for Real Madrid and after how many years? 12, 13 ,14 years?He's still there, so he's my pride."
The midfielder signed for Madrid back in 2012 on a €42 million transfer from Tottenham Hotspur when Mourinho was still bossing at Bernabeu. There was a certain skepticism around the Croatian's move – some newspapers even went so far as to label him the worst signing of the year. However, time has proven them wrong.
It's 2024, and the 38-year-young Lukita continues to deliver flawless performances one after another. What's more, the player boasts five Champions League titles and a Ballon d'Or in his trophy cabinet, so Jose has every reason to be proud of bringing Modric to Madrid.
