Carlo Ancelotti has recently made a slight change to Real Madrid’s forward-line, playing Vinicius Jr as the right-sided forward and moving Rodrygo more towards the left.
This actually worked really well in the 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich, allowing Vini to score an impressive brace. However, some critics have claimed that moving Rodrygo towards the left is a ‘defensive tactic’ from the gaffer.
Ancelotti addressed this recently, explaining: “We put Rodrygo on the left and Vinicius on the right. Rodrygo scored against City and Vinicius against Bayern. It went very well, we have to adjust things. In general, in the defensive aspect, against Bayern, we have to improve.
“Placing Rodrygo on the left wing is offensive, not defensive. It was only to try to create more damage to the rival defense. It is not a definitive decision, it can change. He is effective in all the positions in which I put him. To He doesn’t change much.”
Neither Vini Jr nor Rodrygo are expected to start the upcoming game against Cadiz in La Liga, as Ancelotti might rest a number of key first-team starters to protect them ahead of the second leg of the Champions League against Bayern at the Santiago Bernabeu next week.
