Ten Hag shares honest Antony opinion amid Hojlund's injury

Erik ten Hag has admitted Antony has a long way to go before he can be a regular starter at Manchester United.

Quoted by Goal, the boss told reporters: "He has to prove a point, that he will do. And he has big potential.

"He hasn’t shown it lately, but I know what his talent is, and it’s about proving his talent, and it’s about him.

"And, yeah, he will probably get his opportunities, right? But, yeah, I think that was always the idea."

Erik instead dropped hints on who could feature vs Fulham instead of Antony, adding: "You have competition, and now he has to show himself on the training pitch, but also others because we have opportunities there.

"With [Amad] Diallo returning from an injury, he’s doing well in the training. Omari Forson is doing well.

"So we have options to fill in those positions. And it’s not set that Marcus Rashford has to play as a centre forward."

Antony has scored just one goal in the Carabao Cup all season and has gone mostly anonymous when playing in the Premier League.

The Brazilian has appeared 24 times across competitions this season. Lately, he's spent most of his time on the bench since the emergence of Alejandro Garnacho on the right wing.

Despite the injury to Rasmus Hojlund, it doesn't look like Ten Hag trusts Antony to deliver the goods.
