Man United continue to be strongly linked to Newcastle United man Dan Ashworth to become the club’s new sporting director.
The Magpies’ manager Eddie Howe was recently asked about Ashworth’s situation and said: “Nothing, as far as I’m aware. Obviously it’s been in the news a lot and usually with these things that means something is going to happen but, as we speak now, we’ve had no contact.
“We’re very protective of what’s ours,” he added. “Whether that’s players or staff. If people do eventually move on to other clubs, there’s a process to go through before that’s a reality.”
Man United are reportedly in talks with Newcastle and are trying to come to a deal to bring Ashworth to the club. The Englishman is rumoured to have accepted a move to Old Trafford, but the two sides will need to agree on a compensation fee for him to change his job.
The Red Devils will hope that Ashworth can start his work at the club soon, as he’s expected to have an influence over how the club operates in the summer transfer window.
