Here we go: Man United reach agreement to sell Alvaro Fernandez permanently

Man United have reached an agreement with Benfica to sell Alvaro Fernandez on a permanent deal, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Fernandez is currently on a season-long loan at Granada, but the club have the option of breaking the agreement in January, which would allow them to sell him to another club in a bid to make a profit on the player.

Romano wrote on X: "Benfica are closing in on a deal to sign 2003-born fullback Alvaro Fernandez!

"Personal terms 100% agreed now, the contract is ready. The agreement is being finalised with Man United on a permanent transfer, as per Record. Details are being discussed and then… here we go."

Fernandez was involved for the Red Devils during pre-season and there were suggestions that he could break into the first team after a knee injury for Tyrell Malacia.

However, that was not the case. United signed Sergio Reguilon from Tottenham Hotspur to fill the void left by Malacia and they were happy to loan out Fernandez.

The 20-year-old's contract expires in June and there has been no talk of him getting a new deal. United should be trying to negotiate a sell-on and buy-back clause at the very least.
