Eddie Howe on his subs vs Man United: 'I wanted players to use it as training session'

Eddie Howe seemingly aimed a dig at Man United following his side's 3-0 win in the Carabao Cup.

With Newcastle United certain to advance to the next round, the Englishman introduced attacking substitutes, Bruno Guimarães and Callum Wilson with just four minutes left. 

He explains: "The intention was to give minutes to players, so they could use it as their training session”.

Understandably, Newcastle have a tough Premier League test against Arsenal this weekend. However, insinuating that the players were brought on against us to keep fit was disrespectful.
