Onana 8, Williams 4: Rating United players in Dortmund loss

Onana: 8/10. Made an excellent save on Haller early in the second half, immediately scolding Maguire for a poor pass that led to the Dortmund moment. Excellent distribution, his composure on the ball and long-range passing is what we missed so much.

Van de Beek: 7.5. Some nice playmaking from deep from the Dutchman today. Quite an energetic performance. Notched two assists, something to build upon.

Eriksen: 7.5. Sprayed his long-range passes nicely, setting the United attackers in motion. Was denied a beautiful free-kick goal by a Kobel save.

Pellistri: 7.5. Very active and involved in the game, tormented the Dortmund right-back with his take-ons.

Bruno: 7.5. Should have had at least two assists but the forwards' finishing let him down massively.

Dalot: 7. Scored an absolute rocket in the first half. Looked very solid in a hybrid full-back / midfielder role, often drifting inwards to help midfielders in the build-up. Was caught out of position defensively though, with his positioning partly to blame for Dortmund's equaliser.

Heaton: 7. Looked very reliable when called into action.

Mount: 7. Maybe went under the radar a bit but he kept the clock ticking with his smart passing and movement.

Rashford: 7. Looked really sharp after coming on, playing smart passes and taking on the opposition defenders. Wasted a great chance in the 82nd minute, failing to make proper contact with the ball after a magnificent Bruno cross.

Sancho: 6.5. Played as a no. 9 and was quite sharp and proactive but he still probably would have wanted to be more involved. A bit too much of his tendency to try to dribble past the entire opposition defence today though.

Antony: 6.5. Showed his goalscoring instinct with an equaliser for United when the ball fell to him. Wasted a huge open-goal chance late on. Aggressive in pressing.

Maguire: 6.5. Was clearly the best defender for United in the opening 60 minutes. Was quite solid against Adeyemi & Co. and looked relatively composed under pressure. Seriously a good outing for Maguire.

Hugill: 6. Will probably lose some of his sleep over that missed one-on-one against Meyer late in the game.

Forson: 5. A lot of desire and effort but needs to improve his decision-making in the final third. Significantly improve if he wants to play for United, if we're honest. Got taken off before the break as Ten Hag feared he would get sent off for aggressiveness.

Lindelof: 5. Caused the second Dortmund goal with a poor pass that was intercepted, basically laying it on a plate for Malen to score.

Williams: 4. Did poorly defending against Adeyemi before Dortmund equalised, basically causing the goal. Wasn't particularly inventive going forward. Overall a very unconvincing performance.

Wan-Bissaka: 4. Played an incredibly poor pass that led to Dortmund's third goal. Could have scored on the break earlier but sent his effort to the moon.

Others: McTominay: 6, Licha: 6.5, Shaw: 6.5, Casemiro: 6.5, Evans 6.
