Dominik Szoboszlai wears no. 8 at Liverpool, an important number which previously belonged to Steven Gerrard. The Hungarian explained how he took it up.
"Macca (Alexis Mac Allister) signed before me and was the number 10," Szoboszlai told Astro Super Sport, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo.
"I don't really know which numbers were open but when they said the eight was open I said I didn't want to listen to the other numbers, I said 'yes I would like to take it'. They said 'okay we will have a think about it' because it's a heavy number, and then they came back and said I could have the number eight."
After Dominik signed for Liverpool, Gerrard came in touch with him.
"(It was) not because I was taking his number," the Hungary international said. "He just texted me asking if there was anything he could help with in Liverpool or finding a house or whatever I need, then I can text him.
"The club has helped with everything, but if I would need anything then I would text him."
