Why Moises Caicedo was not sent off after a nasty tackle on Ryan Gravenberch?

In a heated Carabao Cup final clash between Liverpool and Chelsea, the spotlight fell on Moises Caicedo's challenge that left Ryan Gravenberch injured. The Liverpool midfielder had to be stretchered off the field after a tough tackle from Chelsea's player.

Despite the severity of the incident, referee Chris Kavanagh opted not to show a card to the Ecuadorian midfielder. The play continued momentarily until another foul, this time on Cody Gakpo.

The absence of a card for Caicedo sparked controversy, especially given the late and high nature of the challenge.

According to the Liverpool ECHO, the tackle was considered reckless instead of a serious foul. Because of this, VAR didn't step in, and the referee's initial decision stayed as it was.

Some people feel Caicedo should have received a yellow card, but it's important to note that VAR can't go back in time to issue those yellow cards during the game. What's your take on this decision?

Former Premier League referee Mike Dean was alongside Peter Drury, Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher as part of Sky Sports' commentary team.

He said: "I think he's caught his foot on his (Ryan Gravenberch's) foot.

"It's a bit like yesterday (Harry Maguire on Sasa Lukic), but not as severe, Chris (Kavanagh) has tried to play on, the second one it's not a foul. For me it could've been a caution, or come back to book him, it's the second foul from Caicedo so he's treading a fine line.

"I know the VAR can't inform the referee but tackles like that, he's seen a foul, tried to play on that's when you say to the referee: 'it's not serious foul play but it's a yellow card'. It is a yellow card offence, no doubt whatsoever."
