Serie A match postponed as club chief hospitalized few hours before the game time

Fiorentina's match against Atalanta in Serie A got called off just hours before the kick-off. This happened because Joe Barone, a director at Fiorentina, suddenly got sick and had to go to the hospital.

Reports state he might have had a heart attack. Italian publications suggest that Fiorentina's coach Vincenzo Italiano and the team captain Cristiano Biraghi went with some other people from the club to a hospital in Milan where Barone is getting treated.

The encounter between the two clubs will have to be rearranged. A Fiorentina statement read: "It has been confirmed that the Serie A Week 29 match between Atalanta and Fiorentina scheduled for today, March 17, at 18:00 CET has been postponed until a later date."

Atalanta also shared a message on Twitter confirming the game's postponement. They told fans not to go to the Gewiss Stadium. Some fans, though, were already there, sitting in their seats when they heard the news.
