Bayern Munich 'made contact' with potential Thomas Tuchel replacement

Bayern Munich is actively considering a change in leadership, with rumours swirling around the future of current head coach Thomas Tuchel. The team faced its third defeat in eight days against Bochum, intensifying the pressure on Tuchel, who is already under scrutiny.

While the club's CEO, Jan-Christian Dreesen, publicly supported Tuchel for the upcoming game against RB Leipzig, reports from Corriere dello Sport suggest that Bayern has identified their 'first choice' candidate to replace Tuchel.

Contact has reportedly been made with former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane, and talks are said to have occurred before the Champions League round of 16 clash against Lazio, a game Bayern ultimately lost.

Zidane, a highly-regarded figure since leaving Real Madrid in 2021, is considered Bayern's preferred choice for the summer. However, it remains 'unclear' whether Zidane would immediately accept the position.

The Frenchman has been linked with various clubs, including Manchester United and Juventus, expressing his desire to continue his coaching career in a June 2022 interview with Telefoot.

"Am I still able to contribute things as a coach? Yes, many things, or I think at least some," Zidane said. "I want to continue with that career because I still have the desire – it is my passion. I am 50 years old, fulfilled, I'm happy, that's the most important thing."
