Newcastle are currently in negotiations with Saudi club Al Ahli for the transfer of winger Allan Saint-Maximin. Manager Eddie Howe has revealed that Financial Fair Play rules have compelled the likely departure of the 26-year-old player.
On Saint-Maximin, Howe said: "Allan is in discussions regarding a move to another club. Nothing is confirmed, nothing is done, it’s still at the early stages, but that [FFP] is why he wasn’t here."
As discussions continue, Saint-Maximin was not part of the squad for Tuesday night's 2-1 victory against Rangers. The Magpies are hoping the deal will be worth around £30 million.
Howe expressed that he doesn't want to lose Saint-Maximin, but to make room for new signings, some current players might need to be sacrificed. Newcastle are also in talks for a £35 million deal to bring Harvey Barnes to the team.
If Saint-Maximin's move is finalized, Barnes could join them on their pre-season tour in the United States.
