Robert Lewandowski could win Ballon d'Or this year, explained

Robert Lewandowski hasn't had the best season of his career this year. It's the first time in nearly 10 years that Lewandowski would finish a season without winning a trophy.

However, Lewa could end up lifting the biggest individual prize in football — the Ballon d'Or.

According to Diario Sport, France Football, organizers of the Ballon d'Or awards, are seriously considering handing Lewandowski the award for his performance in 2020.

Lewandowski was the favourite to win the Ballon d'Or in 2020 after a remarkable year with Bayern in which he won the league, Champions League and Cup. But the Ballon d'Or award gala wasn't held due to the outbreak of Covid.

"In 2020 and 2021 I had the best years of my career. Recently a friend sent me statistics: I scored 100 goals in 85 games," Lewandowski said in an interview on Sport Bild.

Leo Messi would win the Ballon d'Or the following year for his performance in helping Argentina win the Copa America. Lewa had to make do with second place.
