The former Barca man was speaking about how quickly American sport is evolving, here's what he said:

"I think US sport is better. It is more attractive than European sport. On an economic level, everything is better structured for the clubs. In Europe, everything is in the hands of the players.

"Barcelona and Real Madrid will not be competitive in the long term, that's clear. In the USA, the money is distributed evenly between 30 clubs, it is divided in such a way that the teams are protected as much as possible.

What is happening in Europe? Every league is regulated differently. La Liga has very strict fair play, other leagues are different. And then you have to compete with these teams in Europe.

Hey my old friend! If I remember correctly from reading the full interview you are right in that pique mentions the spending capacity from leagues like the premier league and state owned clubs like psg. He’s probably right as neither us or Madrid will be able to compete but he’s not said what he thinks the solution is as I can’t see the super league ever happening and barca going to state ownership goes against everything mes un que club stands for. Interested as always for your opinion?

Thank you for sharing a fuller picture of the interview that wasn't captured in Andrey's news post. 

I wanted to speak to the spending capacity of the MLS Clubs and their competitiveness as enabled by the regulated economic climate which Pique appears to speak in favor of and wants adopted in Europe. 

My question is: how is the MLS competitive right now in Pique's understanding, in terms of finances as compared to what we have in Europe. 

Secondly, I kind of agree that Barca and Madrid will not be able to compete with Big English Clubs, but that wouldn't necessarily be because La Liga  favors strict spending since those regulations are designed to protect the clubs from self ruin. 

The problem I suspect will be Barca's disposition to transforming the Ownership structure of the Club. 
As you pointed out, Barca aren't about to sell the Club to some Oil Sheikh who will manage the club according to his Whims and caprices or to some Billionaire Family in Europe like we have at Manchester United. 

The ownership structure is somewhat different for both Madrid and Barca. 
And if they are going to be competitive in my opinion like the rest of their Big English Counterparts, the only option will be to radically change the ownership structure of the clubs to allow for Billionaire level investments. 

 I imagine the Corporate Regulations and Statutes in Spain regulating Registration and Transformation of Corporate Entities from one Corporate vehicle to the other, might provide some guidance in that respect. 

I can cite Girona for example, I believe the Part Owners of Manchester City have proprietary stake in Girona as a club. And Girona are Barca's Cross Town Rivals. 

The feeling is: if our town rivals can welcome Investments from the Middle East, and they are improving sporting wise and are competitive financially enough to attract decent players within the allowable regulations of La Liga, why can't Barca? 

I'll say this though: when we get to the point where Barca are unable to compete in Europe financially, and that inability triggers an emergency action to take steps to get the club back to competitive levels, I strongly think Socios will permit the Barca Management to follow in Girona's footsteps. 

The whole Mes Que Un Club philosophy as it relates to social ownership of the club, might have to take a backseat.

Girona are already a team to beat right now. 
They are on top the league I believe and are playing amazing football. 

The Experiment going on at Girona under the financial influence and backing of City's Owners, if it results in a League Title, will immediately cause Barca to reevaluate much of their institutional values as a club if our finances remain in ruins. 

Just like Leicester City without the Oil money, Girona can accomplish what Athletico achieved some recent years ago.

So look how you can say they play good football. Funny how they don’t have players like Pedri, Jude, FDJ, silva, De Brunne, kimmich, wirtz, and others of that caliber to play “good football “. So  I am right all along unlike these bum ass fans who think you need special players just to have a philosophy and play good football. The Xavi excuses are dead to me.

They are asking us to name a possible replacement if we want Xavi gone. 

The guy I wanted is in Saudi the Gallardo guy. But I read a very extensive article interview he gave to The Athletic and it seems the guy is picky about the team he wants to coach and he is a big disciple of giving coaches Time and right players to succeed. 

I'm shocked at his statements in the absence of some context.

I'm still waiting to read the part where Pique actually mentions how Barca and Madrid will be unable to compete in Europe given that the bulk of the Revenue in La Liga is shared between both clubs. 

Unless he means that Barca & Madrid will be unable to match the spending capacity of English Clubs withing 5 years.
