'Payment will end in 2025': Laporta reveals Barca still owes Messi money

Barca president Joan Laporta spoke about 

 once again during his latest interview with La Vanguardia. 

This time though, Laporta confirmed that Barca are still owing Messi a chunk of his wages during his time at the club and will keep paying him for the next two years. 

"[Messi's] deferral salary was agreed with the previous board and that produces pending payments that will end in 2025," Laporta said. 

"He [Messi] is being paid religiously and that adds to our wage bill, but it is interpretable because, with the improvement of relations with La Liga, the payments being made [to Messi] will not impact our financial fair play," Laporta added.

However, Laporta makes it clear that the money being owed to the Argentine is his deferred salary as agreed with former Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu. 

 are also owed millions in deferred salary but in the case of Pique, he decided to forgive Barca the huge debt to help the club. 

This summer, the Blaugrana tried to bring Messi back to the club for one last dance but he opted to join 

 as the financial package wasn't convincing enough.

Joan Laporta gave a bare-it-all interview to TV3 on Thursday night where he opened up on what's been going on at the club recently. 

Once again, the Barca president spoke about 

"I think Messi wanted to come back to Barca, and his father said that he had had a very hard adaptation in Paris. Leo didn't want this kind of pressure again," Laporta said. 

But Barca fans on Twitter are sickened of hearing Laporta rambling about Messi in his speeches after twice failing to get the legend to play for the club — in 2021 and 2023.
