'I remember they had Fabregas, Hazard – what a team, no?': Pochettino recalls 2016's 'Battle of the Bridge'

Mauricio Pochettino was involved in one of the biggest games of the season back in 2016 when he was the manager of Tottenham.

Spurs were in a title race with Leicester City that year and anything less than a win against Chelsea in May would have seen them relinquish the title to the Foxes.

The heated game that took place at Stamford Bridge later came to be known as the 'Battle of the Bridge'.

Ahead of this evening's clash with Spurs, Pochettino reflected on the 2016 edition of the game, which saw his side draw with Chelsea and Leicester winning the league.

"I remember it really well. My memory is good. It was a really tough game, a difficult night.

"We needed to win and Chelsea were an experienced team. I remember they had [Cesc] Fabregas, [Eden] Hazard – what a team, no?

"They were not doing a fantastic season but in that one game they competed well because they knew how to compete. It was a battle because we wanted to win and we were very competitive.

"Sometimes we crossed the line and it was a really difficult moment but it shows you how competitive we were with Tottenham and that is why a few years after we were in the final of the Champions League because we were a very competitive team."
