'Not difficult': Romano provides update on Lewis Hall's Chelsea return

Lewis Hall joined Newcastle in the summer on an initial loan with an obligation to buy for £28m plus £7m in add-ons. The obligation is triggered when certain conditions are met — and Toon manager Eddie Howe admits that the full-back may not stay at the club beyond this season.

"You’re probably asking the wrong man, I’m not 100 per cent sure," Howe said when asked about the Englishman's long-term future at St James Park, via The Mirror.

"It’s not mine [decision to make]. For me, he’s here now, he’s a Newcastle player. But I think there’s certain criteria he has to meet."

This may have caused home among some Chelsea fans that the Cobham graduate will come back to the Bridge next summer. But Fabrizio Romano insists it won't happen.

“I can say that Newcastle don’t want to share this precise criteria [to make the transfer permanent] in public but sources guarantee it’s not super difficult to reach it,” Romano wrote in his column for Caught Offside.

“Let’s see in the next months what happens with Hall as the picture will become clearer with time. In my opinion, I don’t think Howe wanted to speak about this topic in a negative way; he just said the truth.”
