Arsenal are still in the hunt for the potential signing of Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, claims CBS Sports’ Ben Jacobs.
The Gunners and Man City have both contacted the Brazilian’s entourage over a possible summer move. The Cityzens, however, are pushing much harder for this deal.
Mikel Arteta appreciates the quality of Guimarares. But Arsenal have made it clear that they do not want to trigger his £100m release clause. Considering how they signed Declan Rice for over that, it’s not surprising either.
The Gunners would only join the race to sign him and start making bids if notified of a drop in price. Newcastle United, of course, don’t want their star midfielder to leave.
But if Guimarares pushes to join a Champions League club, offers exceeding the £80m mark could be considered by the Magpies.
The 26-year-old midfielder has been a bright spark in the Premier League for Newcastle, having scored six goals and provided six assists from a no.6 role in 36 appearances so far.
