Not even a VAR check — Liverpool equalise from penalty after possible dive by Harvey Elliott

Liverpool had to settle for a draw against Man United at Old Trafford, a result that sent Arsenal top of the Premier League on goal difference.

Who knows how the game would have ended if Liverpool hadn't been given a penalty towards the end of the game that saw Mohammed Salah equalise from the spot.

Harvey Elliott was fouled inside United's box — or was he? Aaron Wan-Bissaka was somewhat careless in sticking his leg out, but a slow-mo replay complicates the matters.

A close inspection may confirm the suspicion: Elliott seems to be the one finding the leg rather than vice versa.

Much as the episode caused controversy, weirdly enough, there was no extensive VAR check, one of those that takes minutes of everyone's time.

Quite a few fans on social media were equally confused by the decision.

@EastlyGod: "Stupid challenge, but Elliot was going down before Wan Bissaka actually made any contact."

@Aszneeee: "Elliot went down before AWB touched him, where is VAR?"

@30fps_is_cinematic: "I don’t know if I’m deluded but does Elliot not initiate contact and it’s actually another insanely soft penalty."
