Chris Kavanagh appointed referee for Fulham game: Arsenal were unhappy with his decisions last time out

Chris Kavanagh will take charge of the Premier League Matchday 1 clash between Arsenal and Fulham, reports Charles Watts. The Gunners are set to travel to the Cottagers on Saturday.

And it's difficult to say the 35-year-old referee has been favourable to the north London side in his 3-year Prem career.

He has so far officiated 9 Arsenal games, 5 of them last season.

We have secured 4 victories under his officiating but only one of them came in the 19/20 campaign (vs Man United).

Kavanagh also made a controversial call in last season's Matchday 34 game against Leicester. He sent off Eddie Nketiah a few minutes after the striker came on in the second half, and Mikel Arteta was furious with the decision after the game.

Arsenal appealed against the red card but it was upheld and Eddie had to serve a 3-game ban.

Interestingly, a similar foul by James Tarkowski was not even checked by VAR.

Nketiah's red has been the only occasion Kavanagh sent off an Arsenal player. He booked Gunners 16 times in these 9 games.

David Coote, who was suspended last season for making too many wrong calls, will be in charge of VAR on Saturday.

Well, at least we didn't get Martin Atkinson.
