"The most painful of my career": Mourinho reveals the only managerial defeat that made him cry

Jose Mourinho revealed what was the most painful defeat in his whole career. It was the Champions League semi-final against Bayern Munich in 2012, when he managed Real Madrid.

"The penalty shootout defeat in the 2012 Champions League semi-final against Bayern is one of the most painful of my career. Unfortunately, it's football. Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaká and Sergio Ramos missed penalties.

"Three complete football monsters, but they are human. That night was the only time in my coaching career that I cried after a loss. It was very difficult because we were the best that year. We were the best team in Europe. We won La Liga breaking all records for points and goals and we would have won this final against Chelsea, I have no doubt.

"The cruelest thing for me was that in the penalty shootout we chose Cristiano, Kaká and Sergio, absolute certainties. The fact that these guys lost destroyed me."

We drew that semi-final 3-3 on aggregate, but lost 1-3 in the penalty shoot-out.
