'He can give a fantastic performance in any La Liga team': Fernando Morientes tips 'extraordinary' Raul Jimenez for big club move amid Madrid links

Wolverhampton striker Raul Jimenez is an extraordinary player and can improve any La Liga club, including Real Madrid and Barcelona, former Whites' forward Fernando Morientes has claimed.

“For a striker to take out his virtues he must be surrounded by talent,” he told ESPN.

“There are people who end up not taking shape in one team, but come to another team, such as now in England, and we all think that Raul Jimenez is an extraordinary player who can give a fantastic performance in any La Liga team.”

Jimenez already had his chance in the Spanish top flight. Atletico Madrid signed him from Club America for €10.5m in 2014. The Mexican scored only one goal in 28 appearances in his only 2014/15 La Liga season.

“If you think of Raul Jimenez at the moment, he could be giving his best version in Spanish football and in this case at Atletico Madrid, but also think that the great clubs have many players, who go through good and bad moments and the moment when the club decides that a player must leave is not a decision of a single person, the coach has weight in that decision,” Morientes added.

“I think that there are players who have a higher performance in the team they play, I’ve played 18 years professionally in different teams and it has been different in each of them, it doesn’t depend on the quality or the physical appearance of the player, it depends on how you surround yourself.”

After his short spell in the Spanish capital, Jimenez moved to Benfica. He netted 31 strikes for the Portuguese giants before his move to the Premier League in 2018.

The 29-year-old is on 39 goals in 88 outings for Wolves so far.

Zinedine Zidane views Jimenez as a 'perfect partner' for Karim Benzema amid Luka Jovic's struggles at the Bernabeu.
