Norwegian centre-back Kristoffer Ajer, who was reportedly recommended to Real Madrid by Martin Odegaard, no less, is definitely leaving Celtic after the season's end. That's according to the player's agent, Tore Pedersen.
"He will not extend his contract with Celtic and will leave this summer," Pedersen said as cited by English tabloid The Sun.
"There are several clubs who are interested, but I can't go into their names. There are many who have followed him for a long period.
"There are also clubs who would like to have him, but who cannot afford it. There is generally great interest in Kristoffer."
This is, of course, a boost to Real Madrid but, according to Diario AS, Los Blancos would have to beat city rivals Atletico to the signing.
The Rojiblancos are reportedly looking for a player to replace Jose Gimenez at the back and see dominant in the air Ajer as the ideal option. The Diego Simeone's team are also hoping for a discount as the 22-year-old only has two years left on his contract.
However, the Norwegian's potential signing reportedly heavily depend on Gimenez leaving Atletico with Liverpool and Inter showing interest in the Uruguayan.
As for Real Madrid, Ajer is reportedly viewed as a future Sergio Ramos replacement.
Apart from playing at centre-back, Ajer is known for his ability to play on the right and even in defensive midfield. As a reminder, Sergio Ramos was often used on the right after he joined Real Madrid in the mid-2000s.
The 22-year-old is valued at just €2.7m by Transfermarkt. However, let's not forget that Virgil van Dijk, who also played for Celtic earlier, was sold for a modest sum four years before he became a world-class defender.
