2 players doing well and 7 struggling: round-up of Man United's loan spells this season

It remains to be seen whether any of them have a future at Old Trafford under a new manager (which is likely to be Erik ten Hag) but some players have clearly done themselves no favours after temporarily leaving the club.

Axel Tuanzebe: failure

Tuanzebe cut short his loan spell at Aston Villa in January in order to move to Napoli. However, his spell in Italy has been just as disappointing with the centre-back excluded from the Europa League squad and hardly featuring in Serie A.

Brandon Williams: success

Williams, who is doing well at Norwich City, is our first success story. The full-back has featured in 24 Premier League games so far this season, putting in decent performances although the Canaries look like they will go down in May.

James Garner: success

The second success story is Garner who is starring for Nottingham Forest in the Championship. The 21-year-old midfielder will return to Old Trafford in the summer where he will be assessed by the new Man United manager.

Donny van de Beek: failure

Van de Beek moved to Everton in January but Frank Lampard doesn't consider the Dutchman to be a key player for his side. The Toffees are fighting to stay in the top flight and 24-year-old could still get a chance to prove his worth.

Andreas Pereira: success

Pereira is the last success loan story for Man United of the 2021/22 season. The attacking midfielder managed to reboot his career at Flamengo who look set to sign the 26-year-old on a permanent transfer in the coming months.

Facundo Pellistri: failure

Pellistri's name is almost forgotten at Old Trafford and he has done little to give the fans a reason to talk about him. The Uruguayan is a rotation player for La Liga side Alaves, failing to score a goal or register an assist in 22 games.

Amad Diallo: failure

Diallo had to wait until January to leave Old Trafford due to an injury but the decision to send the winger to Rangers is baffling. The Ivorian is not even making the bench for the Scottish side these days and it looks like the gamble has failed.

Tahith Chong: failure

Chong's contract has been extended for a further season but Man United are clearly just looking to avoid losing the player on a free transfer because the Dutchman has done nothing remarkable in 19 games for Birmingham City.

Anthony Martial: failure

Sevilla will not be making an offer to sign Martial on a permanent transfer and it's easy to see why: the Frenchman is yet to score a single league goal. The forward is heading back to Old Trafford where a new manager will decide his future.
