• Manchester United don't seem ready for the new season: they started the game actively, committing three fouls in the first 90 seconds, but Crystal Palace claimed the ball early one, put a lot of pressure on the Reds and opened the scoring.
• Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw were at fault when Andros Townsend scored; the Swede and David De Gea almost cost United another goal; Timothy Fosu-Mensah had little presence defensively.
• The Red Devils dominated possession, claiming a share of 74 per cent, completed 308 passes compared to Palace's 77 and attempted 8 shots but failed to create a clear-cut chance.
• Daniel James was arguably the brightest United player offensively in the first 45 minutes but he couldn't turn his desire into quality.
• Bruno Fernandes had no impact on the game at first; however, United started looking way better when the playmaker turned up.
• Mason Greenwood and Donny van de Beek will most likely take the pitch in the second half as the Reds desperately need more creativity, fire and individual brilliance.
