Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has shown a clear preference to homegrown English players during his stint at Man United, signing and promoting talented domestic stars over the last year or so.
The Norwegian gaffer is again targeting English talents for an ideal summer transfer window, with Jadon Sancho and Jack Grealish being at the top of his wishlist.
Tribuna.com compiles a list of other English stars the club could sign, based on their market value and the club’s needs.
- Why: United need a long-term replacement for Nemanja Matic and the hard-working defensive midfielder is perfect to keep our midfield line sturdy for years to come.
- Key stats: 3.1 interceptions and 2 tackles per game last season.
- Transfermarkt’s value: £44.5m but West Ham United want around £80m to sell him.
- Why: The right-winger possesses that special spark in his style, being able to cut in through the right and create chances for teammates.
- Key stats: 16 goals and 7 assists for Hull City in half of last season.
- Transfermarkt’s value: £22.5m but West Ham would probably want more having signed him earlier this year.
- Why: Calvert-Lewin’s direct style, impressive aerial ability and tendency to bulldoze his way towards goal makes him a nice alternative to Anthony Martial.
- Key stats: Top scorer for Everton last season with 13 Premier League goals.
- Transfermarkt’s value: £21.6m but Everton would definitely want more.
- Why: A clinical attacking midfielder who will get only better in the coming years and can add more firepower to our attack.
- Key stats: 14 goals and 8 assists last season.
- Transfermarkt’s value: £8.1m and QPR probably can’t negotiate for much higher.
