Arne Slot is set to be the next Liverpool manager as Jurgen Klopp nears the end of his reign.

Liverpool weren't the only English team interested in him though. Before the appointment of Ange Postecoglou, Tottenham had approached Slot for the managerial role.

Tottenham had just finished 8th in the 2022/23 season and were therefore not in the Champions League or any other European competition.

Slot said then that this was why he did not go through with the move, despite being very close to agreeing on a deal.

"The decisive factor was playing in the Champions League... the fact that I am having a great time privately and being able to build on the past two seasons," said Slot back then.
