Chelsea broke a British transfer record, paying £115m for Moises Caicedo. What could have gone wrong? Everything, as it turns out.
The Ecuadorian was introduced at the hour mark as Chelsea were trailing 2-1 away at West Ham, with previous Premier League transfer record Enzo Fernandez missing a penalty late in the first half.
Caicedo didn't do anything of substance as Chelsea looked extremely poor despite enjoying a one-man advantage after Aguerd was sent off for a reckless challenge on Jackson.
And in the added time to second half, as Chelsea were still pushing for an equaliser, Caicedo bundled over Emerson in the Blues' penalty box. The referee awarded West Ham a penalty and Paqueta converted.
A debut to forget for Caicedo, who snubbed Liverpool in order to join Chelsea.
