'It's gone': Callum Wilson says Liverpool have taken away Champions League 'smell' from Newcastle

"Liverpool needs to relax!" Newcastle striker Callum Wilson said on the latest Footballer’s Football Podcast.

"I said I could smell [the Champions League] a couple of weeks ago now that scent is gone. I don’t know where it’s gone. [Sniffs...] I can’t find it!

"That game [Newcastle 0-2 Arsenal] reiterates we've still got a bit of a way to go. We've got Leeds and Leicester to play and they're both in a relegation battle. We need three wins out of four."

Liverpool has won six matches on the spin and with only three games left this campaign, there is still a chance that a top-four finish could be secured.

Qualifying for the Champions League seemed impossible not that long ago after a dismal run of results, particularly away from home, but Liverpool has dragged itself just about back into contention.

With Leicester City (A), Aston Villa (H) and Southampton (A) to play, there is a hope that three more victories — taking the winning run to nine — could be enough.

But that would rely on Manchester United dropping points in at least two fixtures, or Newcastle United losing twice, with both of those sides favorites to get over the line considering the fixtures that they have left.
