'He's got the potential': Darren Bent names his only issue with Everton sensation Jarrad Branthwaite

Everton centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite has emerged as one of the breakout stars of the 2023/24 Premier League with his admirable performances.

Ex-Tottenham Hotspur forward Darren Bent talked up about the 21-year-old’s potential after he helped the Toffees get a 1-0 win over Brentford at the weekend and told Talksport: “I thought his performance was fantastic at the weekend, blocked everything, put his body on the line. Listen, he’s got the potential to be absolutely brilliant.

“My only issue is, it’ll be interesting to see how he fares when he comes up against better opposition, certainly playing for his country.

“Him and Tarkowski are great at winning headers, putting their bodies on the line, but when you’ve got to have possession of the ball, move the ball, almost be comfortable in possession and starting team’s attacks. But I thought at the weekend, oh my goodness, he blocked everything.”

Branthwaite is yet to make his debut for the England national team, but has impressed in the Premier League this season – scoring three goals in 32 appearances and helping the Toffees keep 11 clean sheets in that period.

The 21-year-old keeps on being strongly linked to a potential summer move to Man United. Everton might be forced to sell their prized asset to generate enough money needed to avoid potential Premier  League Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) breaches and more points deductions next season.
