'Under-12 football match': Paul Merson slams Tottenham defending for Arsenal's opener

Paul Merson didn't hold back on criticizing Tottenham's defence after their 3-2 loss to Arsenal in the North London derby. The trouble started early with an own goal by Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg just 15 minutes into the match.

Arsenal dominated the first half, scoring two more goals. Despite a late surge from Spurs with goals from Cristian Romero and Son Heung-Min, Arsenal held on for the win.

Merson pointed out on Sky Sports that the outcome could have been different if Tottenham's defence was better at the start.

He said the set piece that led to the opener: 'If you look every Arsenal player is behind. The Tottenham players are all watching, it's the worst thing you could ever do as a defender.'

"I wasn't a defender, but I know the game. You can't let those players get goal side of you, and every one of them virtually ends up on the other side of the player."

"They end up being in behind them. It's, unbelievable. You wouldn't see this happen in an under-12 football match. It's unbelievable."
