There's been a lot of rumours linking Frenkie De Jong away from Barcelona but Xavi is strongly against selling the Dutchman.
“For me, De Jong is a key player. Nothing has changed, he’s really crucial for me,” Xavi said.
“He’s been unlucky with many injuries. He has suffered three ankle injuries that affected his season. But his level has always been excellent, I consider Frenkie a crucial player," Xavi insisted.
De Jong may not play again for Barca this season after suffering his third ankle injury during the El Clasico.
Reports suggest Barca would ultimately need to sell a player before they can bring in someone new. A big player on high wages has been rumoured to be the best bet.
However, De Jong has reiterated his desire to continue at Barca and now Xavi thinks the same way. It's a message to the club telling them they would weaken the squad if they decide to push the player out the door.
