Sergio Ramos equals Pique's Champions League record, but Sevilla disappoints Spain

Sergio Ramos scored a Champions League goal for Sevilla last night during their game against PSV in the group stage.

With that goal, Ramos drew level with Gerard Pique and Roberto Carlos as the defenders with the most Champions League goals (16) in history.

But Sevilla is Sevilla. Despite scoring again to extend their lead to 2-0 on a night they needed to win to stay in the competition with the hope of reaching the round of 16, they ultimately crashed out.

What happened? Sevilla conceded twice in a matter of minutes before they shat the bed as PSV scored in the 92nd minute to secure victory and a place in the knockout. The game ended 2-3.

What does that mean? Sevilla disappoints Spain by bottling that game as they're the only Spanish team who won't be in the last 16 this year. Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Real Sociedad all booked their place.

Well, it makes some sense though. Sevilla only qualified for the group stage by winning the Europa League last season. You would think they would finish third and drop down to Europa to fight for their 'birthright' once again, but that isn't happening this year unless we witness a blue miracle next week.
