How Barca can lineup with Christensen as a midfielder – he already spoke about playing there

Some reports in Spain claim Xavi see Andreas Christensen as a backup deep-lying midfielder following the exit of Eric Garcia and with no natural backup for Oriol Romeu.

This sort of tactical ingenuity has already been tried with good success by Pep Guardiola who deployed John Stones in a midfield role last season and the defender performed excellently.

Last season Xavi tried the system by deploying Garcia in that position. The Spaniard didn't do too badly on the day.

Now here's what Barca's XI will look like with Christensen taking up a role in midfield.

The player who could drop out is Romeu, but that will only be due to fatigue or injury.

Asked about playing as a midfielder in 2019, Christensen said: "From centreback to midfielder, there's only one line of distance."
