Last season, Alejandro Balde supplanted Jordi Alba to become Barcelona's first-choice left-back. But it was a decision Xavi didn't make easily.
In the preview of Barca's New Era documentary (season 2), Xavi could be heard almost apologizing to Alba in the dressing room during a speech.
“If at any point you've felt disappointed, then I’m truly sorry," Xavi said.
"I care a lot about you and I admire and respect you. You know it’s nothing personal but sometimes as a coach, you have to make decisions.”
Not long after that, Alba made the decision to leave Barca for Inter Miami on a free transfer although his contract was due to expire in 2024.
Alba now plays regularly alongside his best friends Sergio Busquets and Lionel Messi in the MLS. It was a win-win in the end.
