'I have a contract with Chelsea': Ian Maatsen opens up on his future as Dortmund struggle to meet release clause

Ian Maatsen may not be staying at Borussia Dortmund after a successful loan spell at the German club.

According to Ruhr Nachrichten, the ₤35m buyout clause is too much for Dortmund.

"At this stage of my career, my main priority is to play a lot," Maatsen said when pressed on his future. "That's the most important thing for me.

"I have a contract with Chelsea, it's a big club. As I said, I'm not thinking about my future yet. We’ll see what happens."

Chelsea are reportedly planning to sell the left-back even though they might've been better off keeping him.

Selling Maatsen would generate some much-needed 'pure profit', while the left-back position is currently occupied by Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella.
